Mass Production Completed!
almost 7 years ago – Wed, May 24, 2017 at 11:09:31 PM

It is with great joy and a sigh of relief that I can now tell you that mass production has officially completed! As we speak, the game is being prepped for its journey across the sea.

I want to thank you and all of the backers for being so patient and understanding during the delays and speed bumps we’ve experienced during this process. I hope you’ll agree with me when you see that the final product is well worth the wait. I am incredibly happy with the updated artwork and graphic design, the component quality, and all of the additional content we were able to include.

Now that production is 100% finished, I can provide a much more precise release date. Please understand that these numbers are as close to correct as I can possibly get them, but may change based on customs inspection and/or other unforeseeable circumstances.

  • May 25th: Cargo is loaded onto the ship at the Port in Shanghai and ocean freight begins.
  • Transit across the ocean: 35-40 days.
  • Arrival at Baltimore Port: June 29th – July 5th
  • Customs inspection + transit to Warehouse: Approx. 7 days (July 6th – July 12th)

Shipping will begin shortly after the games arrive at the warehouse. By my calculations, this means that backers in the US should begin receiving their copies in the middle of July. I do not have an exact timetable for international backers, but it should not be too much longer afterward. If you have any questions about this schedule, please let me know!

As a bonus, here are some videos of the game being assembled at our manufacturer!

Enamel Pin Updates

As of now, all who purchased the Waffles pins should have received them. Please send me a message if you ordered but have not yet received your pin! We still have Waffles pins for sale and now we also have Tyrano de Bergerac Pins available! Tyrano pins are 50% larger than the waffles pins, so they are slightly more expensive, but they look WONDERFUL. If you’re interested in purchasing these, you can find them here.

That’s all I have got for you today! Until next time, I remain your faithful Lackey,

David

Convention Schedules, Playtests and Pins!
almost 7 years ago – Fri, May 05, 2017 at 10:42:57 PM

Howdy Overlords!

I'll have an update soon about the status of production (which is going swimmingly) but today I wanted to touch on some other things! First off:

Conventions!

Here are the conventions and shows we'll be attending. If you're there, come say hi!

Strategicon - Gamex - Los Angeles, California May 26th - 29th

Origins Game Fair - Columbus, Ohio - June 14th - 18th

San Diego Comic Con - San Diego, California - July 20 - 23rd

We may make it to more shows around this time. If so, we will keep you posted!

Pins!

We did a small test run of the above enamel pin featuring Waffles the Corgi, and frankly, it looks amazing. Our plan is to have these at conventions and if they are well received, we will make more Overlords into pins until we have a full set!

However, before we sell them at conventions, we'd like to offer them to you. If you want to get one of these pins, we have them available here.

Future Games and Playtesting

As Overlords is approaching the light at the end of the tunnel, we've been hard at work on some new games, such as Dimensions of Discord Online and Volare. We're not quite at the public playtest phase of development, but we will be there soon.

If you are interested in testing any of our future projects, you can e-mail [email protected] and we'll add you to our list of testers.

That's all I have for you today, but I am curious which character would you like to see be made into a pin next? Leave us a comment below!

As always, I remain your faithful Lackey,

David

Hark! An Update!
about 7 years ago – Tue, Feb 28, 2017 at 10:02:39 PM

Pretty cool, right? I don't think I could be any happier with how the box art turned out! Now that I have shown you pretty pictures, how about a production update?

A Production Update.

On New Year's Eve I had mentioned that production was officially beginning on Overlords of Infamy. While true, it is a lengthier process than I had anticipated to actually get the components to the assembly line. I will attribute this fully to my inexperience when it comes to this kind of printing.

To that end, there have been some delays and some speed bumps that I hit when turning in the artwork, apparently making some classic errors which I am sure I will laugh at in 20 years or so. I learned some very important lessons (such as certain image editing programs defaulting to RGB color even if your artwork is already in the necessary CMYK color scheme, among other things...) that will certainly be avoided on our next project, but for now, it has pushed back production slightly.

It has taken some time to get to the point of beginning printing, mainly because we overhauled the graphic design of almost the entire game and every component (see the previous update for a list of what changes were made). I am a bit of a perfectionist and I have the problem of never seeing a project as "done". I kept finding new things that needed to be adjusted or worked on in some way. This is a terrible habit, I just want to make sure that the game we deliver to you is the best quality that we can make it. A game that I would personally be excited to buy.

As of writing this, I have turned in all artwork to our manufacturer and am awaiting approval to move forward, or word of adjustments that must be made. I am eager to see a fully printed version of this game and show pictures to you as well.

So how about an updated timeline? With things being how they are currently, it looks as if I will not be able to get the game delivered in the month of April. However, Mid-May to Mid-June seems a lot more doable and it is my hope that we will have it out to our backers by that time. I promise to provide more information as we get it.

That's all I have for you today, so...

Until next time, I remain your faithful lackey!

A bit more on production... and pictures!
over 7 years ago – Mon, Jan 09, 2017 at 08:55:30 PM

Howdy Overlords!

On New Years Eve I let you know that production was officially beginning on Overlords of Infamy. I want to elaborate a bit on our expectations and reasoning behind the slight delay.

When we launched this Kickstarter campaign, we were proud of the product we presented, but understood that updates and upgrades needed to be made to make the game really pop. Most of these updates were to the graphic design and general artwork. What we learned during and after the campaign was exactly what needed to be changed, fixed, or otherwise altered, and it was no small amount. To give an idea, here is a small list:

  • Hero's quest cards designed from the ground up. Rules for Hero's Quests variant, single player, and 5 player finalized and tested.
  • Complete redesign of the Nefarious Plots and World Event cards.
  • Partial redesign of the Overlord playmats.
  • Partial redesign of the playing area of the board for greater ease of use.
  • Resource symbols on the board, playmats, Nefarious Plots, world events and Hero's quests updated to be more identifiable.
  • Wooden pieces designed for the 7 resources and 6 relics.
  • 4 poses designed for the Lackey Meeples to assist with accessibility for colorblind or otherwise impaired players.
  • A revamp of the rule book.
  • A revamp of the rules text and flavor text on the Nefarious Plots, and World Events.

All of these changes and more have unfortunately led to some delays causing us to begin production now, rather than 1-2 months ago as I planned. I am still confident that the game will be shipped in the Spring, but I would rather risk being slightly behind schedule on delivery than presenting to you anything less than the best product I can.

I promise to keep you updated as production progresses every step of the way, and to provide any photos that I can! That said, here are the 4 meeple poses. Each of these poses will represent a different color set:

Board Game Geek's Most Anticipated Games of 2017

Some of you may already know this, but Board Game Geek user rvinyard puts an unofficial poll up each year for the most anticipated game releases of the upcoming year. There are so many wonderful games on these lists that I will be voting for, but if it tickles your fancy, Overlords of Infamy progressed past the first round of voting in two categories: Crowd Funding and Family & Children. If you have a few minutes and are looking forward to receiving your copy, you might want to take a moment to vote here.

That's all for this update, folks!

Until next time, I remain your faithful Lackey,

David
