Overlords of Infamy - A Board Game of Silly Super-Villainy!

Created by Obscure Reference Games

You are an evil Overlord. Your mission? To make everyone as miserable as possible. Can you achieve world domination?

Latest Updates from Our Project:

You're not messing around! This is incredible...
about 8 years ago – Mon, Feb 22, 2016 at 12:45:34 PM

I'm speechless. Good thing I have a keyboard!

We made it!

You made this happen. Not only did we reach our funding goal, but thanks to all of you, we got there in 4 days 15 hours and 58 minutes. I cannot express how much that myself and the rest of the ORG are appreciative of the support you've given this game. And now...we get to make it better!

Wooden Pieces!

As promised, since we made it to our goal in under a week, we now get to upgrade all of the resource tokens to awesome wooden pieces. They will look similar to the ones you have seen in the p/review videos, but they'll have a unique touch!

Bring your own 'touch of evil' to the game!

The second half of our timed goal is that we're going to let the community decide on our tenth Evil Overlord! You may ask, "But how is this possible?" That's simple, hypothetical self, you just need to do one of the following:

PHASE ONE

  • Tweet a description of an Overlord that you'd like to see added to the game and @obsrefgames. It would help if you #OverlordsofInfamy in the post!
  • Make a Facebook post describing the Overlord you'd like to see added to the game, and add @Obscure Reference Games after liking our facebook page.
  • Send an e-mail with your Overlord description to [email protected]

I know I am totally opening a can of worms here, but feel free to send us any idea you have! Then....

PHASE TWO

In about a week, we will choose about 10 of our favorite suggestions and put them into a poll. Then, all of you backers (and your friends if you invite them!) get to vote on which Overlord you want to see in the game. We'll try to have some concept drawings of the new Overlord before the end of the project! Let's see what you come up with!

Avatars

Want to show your deplorable pride on social media? We've got some avatars for you, already sized properly for facebook, twitter, etc.!

Stretch Goals!

We've come a very long way in a very short time, and we still have 29 days left in this campaign. Let's unlock some stretch goals!  The first Stretch Goal at 26,000 opens up the Hero's Quest cards!

These are optional inclusions that increase the level of difficulty and challenge in the game. The Adventuring Hero now tries to complete quests with the lackeys they kill and tiles they liberate, and if they're successful, it'll have consequences for the Overlords! This stretch goal also opens up the opportunity to play the game in single-player mode in a race against time to finish your plots before the Hero completes theirs.

What are some stretch goals you'd like to see added? Let's see if we can unlock 'em!

Thank you SO much, again, endlessly, for supporting Overlords of Infamy. Let's continue to make the game better and better!

Until next time, Overlords-in-the-making!

What a wild and crazy past 4 2/3 days this has been. We're sitting pretty at 94% just 4.66 (repeating of course) days after launch.

Because of your generosity and hard work spreading the word, we are that much closer to hitting our timed goal! Soon all resource tokens will be upgraded to wood! And don't forget the community-designed tenth Overlord!

Roses are grey, violets are grey...

One thing I wanted to touch upon before our next update is colorblindness. Colorblindness is a condition that affects 8.5% of the population and 100% of the founding members of Obscure Reference Games named Marcus. We believe in being equal-opportunity Overlords and don't want anyone to feel excluded. Because of this, we will be looking into using less common colors for lackeys in order to help out our chromatically-challenged brothers and sisters.

What colors would you like to see on the pieces?

Hear ye! Hear ye!

Through use of a brand new technology called "social media" you can help spread the word of Overlords of Infamy, and help us reach our timed and stretch goals! Want to keep tabs on us?

Here's what we're backing!

Being a total Fallout fan, I was instantly drawn to the concept of Siege of Sunfall. It's cartoony while remaining strategic and challenging, which happens to tickle my fancy. If you'd like to check it out, it comes highly recommended!

For the same reason, I've put my money behind VENOM: Assault. Like Overlords of Infamy, VENOM Assault was awarded the Cloak and Meeple Seal of Excellence. It's reminiscent of G.I. Joe and the other 80s cartoons I used to love. Check it out!

That's it for this round, Overlords-in-the-making! See you next time!

50 hours down, 68% funded!
about 8 years ago – Fri, Feb 19, 2016 at 03:51:18 PM

I'm in awe of what this community is capable of and the generosity you've all displayed.

In just 50 short hours we are 68% of funding goal, and that much closer to unlocking the timed stretch goal! I may or may not be counting down from 5992 in my head... With that said, let's go to the news!

Reviews!

GeekDad posted a glowing review of Overlords of Infamy!

Father Geek also posted a pretty awesome review!

Lance Myxter, the Undead Viking posted an excellent (cue air guitars!) review video!

Q & A

Some of our backers have asked for clarifications on certain parts of the campaign, which I would like to address here:

Q: I've seen some different artwork in the reviews compared to what is shown on your Kickstarter campaign page, which art will be in the final product?

A: Great question! The art for the Overlords themselves is remaining exactly what you see on the header image. We love this Overlord character art and it will stay that way. However, the artwork and graphic design for the board, the cards, the playmats and the tiles will be moving toward the style presented on the Kickstarter campaign page. We love feedback and we would love to hear from you about your thoughts and suggestions!

Q: Your shipping date is set to April 2017, why do long?

A: Another great question! We are committed to getting the game shipped out to you ASAP, while still maintaining a quality game. We would like to get it out to you before the end of the year, if possible. However, we also know that delays can happen completely out of the blue (examples: shutdown of the manufacturing plant, strikes at the ports, delays in artwork approval, etc.) The last thing we want to do is promise that it'll be here early, then miss the shipping date by months because of something going wrong. Still, we will make sure that your game ships as soon as we are physically able.

Q: I heard you saw Deadpool again. How was it the third time?

A: Better than the first two, thanks for asking!

Please keep sending in questions! I will answer them in these updates and on the FAQ at the bottom of the main page.

Spread the word!

You can totally follow us on Facebook or Twitter and help to spread the word! We are so close to unlocking our timed goal, and it's all because of you!

What we're backing

Continuing the rich tradition that stretches allllll the way back to Wednesday, I want to shine a light on some of the projects currently on Kickstarter that excite me. Today I have two, both of which I got to see in person at Strategicon's OrcCon last weekend.

Battlestations: Second Edition! by Jeff Siadek  is the long anticipated second edition of the classic epic game. It's a heroic starship adventure with SUPER COOL miniatures!

If that sounds awesome to you (it should!) you can check them out here.

While Battlestations is already unlocking stretch goals, Villains & Henchmen! can use an extra push to reach their goal. I was lucky enough to meet the folks of Ravensdale Publishing and checked out Villains & Henchmen. This game is great fun!

If you want to check it out, you can here!

Until next time, Overlords-in-the-making!

Over 50% funded in under 24 hours...
about 8 years ago – Fri, Feb 19, 2016 at 10:49:31 AM

Oh what a glorious day!

Not only did we hit the ground running, but we reached over half of our funding goal in 18 hours. This bodes very well for our timed goal!

Give yourselves a pat on the back, because YOU ARE AMAZING. I thank you, the team thanks you, and most importantly, Waffles thanks you!

Remember, if we fund within the first week of the project, we will automatically upgrade all resource tokens into wooden pieces, and we will let our backers help in designing a tenth evil Overlord!

Spread the word, let's make this happen!

What we're backing

I may be an aspiring game designer, but I am a game player first and foremost. In this section and in future updates, I want to share with you what projects currently excite

me on Kickstarter. The first of which is A.D.A.P.T by John Wrot!

A.D.A.P.T. is a mashup style battle game with a unique new experience-based drafting mechanism where each player starts as a humble guppy fish and then upgrades his body over time, while forcibly Adapting new parts, to create a Frankenstein-level "Masterfish", all in preparation for battle to be come the last Masterfish in the sea.

If that tickles your fancy, consider checking out the project page. At the time of writing this, there are only 43 hours left!

See you tomorrow!

Until next time, stay villainous!
