The Dead Pirate Robhearts sails in!
over 5 years ago – Thu, Jun 02, 2016 at 09:52:56 PM

Has it really been a whole month since the last update?! Well shucks! Sorry for the break in communications, but things have been quite busy here at Obscure Reference HQ as we prepare for our pilgrimage to Origins Game Fair 2016! We've also been allocating our time to improving all aspects of the game before we get it to our manufacturer. In the coming weeks I will have quite a lot of new information and images to share with you, including the new designs for the Nefarious Plot and World Event cards, the first of the Hero's Quest cards, numerous graphic design upgrades, awesome news about some of the components and more.

And, at the risk of tempting that cruel mistress "fate", I can also tell you that we are not only currently on time, but we are ahead of schedule.

...Did anyone just hear that ominous thunderclap?! No? Hmm, must have been the wind.

The Dead Pirate Robhearts

In order to earn a decent wage, Roberta Seaheart worked herself delirious aboard the “Easy Target”, a caravel belonging to a wealthy merchant. It was a tough and thankless job, but she was good at it, and found that she took pride in putting in a hard day’s work. Roberta subjected herself to the harsh sea not for herself, but for her true love, Wesley. Wesley’s gambling debts had caught up to him, and he found himself indentured to a cruel warlord. Roberta did not hesitate for even a moment before putting herself in harm’s way to pay for his release.

After a few months, she had earned enough, needing only to return home from their final shipment. Unfortunately for Roberta, the “Easy Target” ran afoul of Mistress Deepgills as she was practicing a magical ritual. A mystical maelstrom swallowed up the ship, the crew, and Roberta herself. Despite the crushing weight of the sea and the grievous wounds she suffered, Roberta willed herself not to die. Her burning desire to see her love mixed with the remaining magical energy left over from Deepgill’s spell to fulfill her wish. The magic pulled her from the depths and deposited her on shore. She woke to discover that she was not dead, but nor was she alive, instead stuck somewhere in between. Using the remains of her former crewmates, she patched up her wounds (and missing limbs) before making her way to buy Wesley's release from his unwilling servitude.

Wesley was repulsed but what he saw, and rejected her on sight. He preferred to remain indentured than to go with such an abomination. For the second time in as many days, Roberta was crushed. If her heart could beat, it would have stopped right there. From that day forward, Roberta Seaheart was no more, replaced by The Dead Pirate Robhearts, sailing with a crew as undead as she, and determined to rid the world of the love and happiness that she had lost…

Affinity: Water

Unique Ability - Press-Ganging - If during any other Overlord's turn, one or more Lackeys were discarded for any reason, The Dead Pirate Robhearts may add a single Lackey to her Barracks from her Lackey Pool during that Overlord's End Phase.

Tyrano de Bergerac

Tyrano de Bergerac is the perfect example of a Cretacean gentleman. Easily the oldest living creature on Fred, Tyrano de Bergerac is the only known being to drink from the legendary Fountain of Youth. One fateful afternoon, a bright ball of fire was seen growing larger and larger in the sky. Tyrano ran blindly as far and fast as he could in a futile attempt to escape the asteroid crashing down onto Planet Fred. Suddenly, as the inevitable collision occurred, the ground opened up and swallowed him. He fell and fell for what seemed like ages before landing in a cool, soothing body of water – The Fountain of Youth.

De Bergerac spent many years swimming in the rejuvenating waters while waiting for the dust to clear above. After a time, he climbed to the surface to survey the chaos, and found that while he was the last of his kind, against all odds, there were many other surviving species. In the millions of years that followed, Tyrano took extended periods of hibernation, waking up periodically to check the evolutionary progress of the planet’s inhabitants, while simultaneously brushing up on his manners and social niceties.

Having already lived through a mass extinction, Tyrano saw the benefits that such an event held in propelling the surviving species forward, which led him to wonder about what would happen if another extinction level event occurred. How greatly would life on Fred improve?

Then and there, Tyrano de Bergerac decided that it was his responsibility to once again hit the reset button on Planet Fred. He might as well spread a little desolation and despair while figuring out just how he would do so…

Affinity: Fauna

Unique Ability - Charming Personality – Once per turn, Sir Tyrano de Bergerac may spend one Action Point to pick an opposing Overlord’s Lackey in any Zone of Influence that he is adjacent to. Move this Lackey to any open Basic Resource space or village within the same Zone of Influence, then Harvest the associated Basic Resource or Lackey. Then move the World Tension tracker as normal.

We're big fans of ITTD because it helps get more people together to play more games. Anything that helps promote and grow the hobby is A-OK in my book! Whether you can participate in the festivities or not, I do have a little gift bit of an update! Meet Tyrano de Bergerac!

More updates coming soon! ;)

Your faithful Lackey,

The surveys are here!
over 5 years ago – Mon, Apr 18, 2016 at 11:40:24 PM

Like the title says, we've sent out the BackerKit surveys to the e-mail addresses that you used to register with Kickstarter!

These surveys will stay open until the factory is finished assembling the games, so if you need to make changes, or if you'd like to purchase add-ons, you can! Additionally, if you need to change your address anytime between now and then, you'll be able to on your BackerKit survey, even if you have already completed and submitted it.

We still have Dragon Sheaths, additional copies of the game, and art books available to add-on to your order. You'll also have the option of upgrading your pledge level.

Lastly, if you know of anyone who wanted to pledge for the game but missed the Kickstarter, they can pre-order the game here!

If you happen to misplace your survey e-mail, you can always access it again by clicking here

Thanks so much for backing Overlords of Infamy! We're very excited to get our game to you. We'll be sending out more updates soon when we have additional news!

And we're done!
over 5 years ago – Wed, Mar 23, 2016 at 11:07:40 PM

So that was a super fun and stressful 34 days! I am pleased that it’s over and yet, at the same time, I am a little stunned that the moment I have been working toward for so long has come and gone.

But that is also exciting, because now we’re moving into a whole new chapter of this story. Now that we have met and exceeded our funding, we will spend a little time polishing the last bits of the game, working on the new components that we unlocked by hitting stretch goals, and designing the two new playable Overlords.

Here's what was unlocked/will be added to the game:

  • 3 Nefarious Plots and 2 World Events unlocked via Social Stretch Goals
  • 16 new Plots/World Events designed with our Dominating Overlord backers
  • Two new Overlords: Tyrano de Bergerac and the Dead Pirate Robhearts
  • Wooden Resources
  • Wooden Relics!
  • Heroes Quests
  • Single-Player Mode

That's a lot of stuff! Woohoo!

What's next?

We’ll be working hard on all of the above, and we'll keep you updated every step of the way!

We're still setting up our pledge manager and will be getting surveys out to you ASAP. Once we do, you can select any add-ons and update your address. We'll provide more information as it is available.

In addition to planning a potential expansion to Overlords of Infamy, all five of us have ideas for other games once we again have time to create.

We'll also be attending GameX in Los Angeles, California and Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio in the coming months. If you'll be at either of these conventions, please let us know!

If you need to ask any questions of us, we're always listening! Please do not hesitate to reach out!

The Dead Pirate Robhearts arrives!
over 5 years ago – Tue, Mar 22, 2016 at 10:56:21 PM

Hey guys! Just checking in with 5 hours to go. Just a quick and dirty update to tell you a few awesome things!

Stretch Goal Smashed!

Apparently $33,000 stretch goals are nothing for the likes of you! We smashed right through it and have our sights set on the 40k goal now! What does this mean? It means that the Relic tokens will now be wooden! Woohoo! This is so great!

The Dead Pirate Robhearts

Due to the efforts of all of you awesome backers, we met our social sharing goal and we will now be adding an eleventh Overlord: The Dead Pirate Robhearts! She will be added to the Waffles promo pack, available to non-backers at a later date.

We will share concept artwork for her when we have it! And lastly...

An upgrade...

As a special thank you to our backers at the Dominating Overlord tier, we are going to be offering them a Dragon Sheath at no additional charge. This offer is also available to anyone else who upgrades their pledge to the Dominating Overlord tier as well! Thanks so much!

That's all I've got for you today!

Until next time, I remain your faithful Lackey,
